TAFE NSW Western Institute - Lithgow
College is offering a Nationally Accredited Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation (full time) Course for 2010. Students will enrol in a combined Certificate III and Certificate IV program in Outdoor Recreation. The course is structured to allow suitable applicants to be working part-time while also studying for their Certificate III/IV in Outdoor Recreation. Students who wish to exit the program with a Certificate III can do so with Low ropes and Adventure Based Learning specialisations. |
|
The Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation provides the training required to enter
a career in the Outdoor Recreation industry. Graduates of the Certificate III
could expect to gain entry level employment in Outdoor Adventure Guiding, Outdoor
Education Instructor, and Corporate Outdoor Training. Certificate IV graduates typically work independantly of direct supervision often in remote environments requiring high level technical skills and the ability to deal with non-routine situations.
Students
need no prior formal skills training in Outdoor Recreation but must have an active interest in
being outdoors. A moderate level of fitness is required to complete the practical
component of the course.
Initially
students will be able to borrow much of the equipment required to complete the
course. However, students should expect to purchase personal equipment throughout
the year such as backpacks and raincoats. Those
seeking employment on course completion, would be expected to provide much of
their personal equipment upon entering the workforce. | |
Students
will develop skills in Bushwalking, Navigation, Adventure
Based Learning, Canoeing and Low Ropes activities.
To
complement the skills mentioned previously, students will gain significant experience in "life
skills" especially in leadership, problem solving, self-sufficiency, first aid
and interpersonal skills.
Theory
classes will be held Moss Vale TAFE, while practical classes will be held in
a variety of venues including Myall Lakes, the Blue Mountains, Kanangra
Boyd, Kosciusko, Wollemi National Park and Morton National Park as well as other areas in the Southern Highlands.
