TVET - Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation .....

Second Year Program - Indoor Climbing/Abseil/Cross Country Skiing

Program Overview

This second-year (return) 10-day TVET Outdoor Recreation program focuses on the 3 activity specialisations of Abseiling, Indoor Climbing and Cross Country Skiing and is tied together with 1 core units (see table below). Returning students are trained and assessed in all 4 units together with skills that include teamwork, time management, organisation, communication, leadership and risk management. Each day, 2 students are nominated as leaders to lead and facilitate the group (under TAFE teacher guidance and supervision) through its various activities. In this manner, the group of returning students further develops teamwork and initiative. The spectacular cliffs in the Blue Mountains region provides the venue for abseiling. Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains, near Jindabyne is the remaining venue for the second half of the program where students undertake day trips on cross-country skis and also have the opportunity to have a combined overnight snow camping and cross-country skiing expedition. For indoor climbing we use the Gym at Lithgow TAFE or other local gyms.
